RealPCR PRRSV Type 1 and Type 2 Multiplex RNA Mix

The IDEXX RealPCR PRRS Types 1-2 Mix is used for the identification of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) RNA when combined with the shared reagents of the IDEXX RealPCR platform. Samples can be tested simultaneously with any other IDEXX RealPCR reagents using shared reagents and a single real-time PCR program.

About Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS)

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a highly contagious, economically devastating disease. Reproductive problems, such as premature births, late-term abortions and increased stillbirths, lead to increased piglet mortality and reduced growth; respiratory disease sickens pigs and makes them vulnerable to secondary infection.

Infected pigs may be asymptomatic or present with general symptoms that are indistinguishable from those of swine influenza, pseudorabies (Aujeszky's disease), classical swine fever, parvovirus, encephalomyocarditis, chlamydiosis and mycoplasmosis. Left undetected, these animals will quickly spread PRRS throughout a herd via contaminated body fluids.

With a disease like PRRS, there's no time for delay or doubt. Effective control depends upon early identification and the quick removal or isolation of infected animals. Serological tests, such as the IDEXX PRRS X3 Ab Test, in combination with IDEXX RealPCR solutions for identification of PRRSV, provide the prompt, definitive diagnoses needed to combat PRRS, ascertain negative herd status, and protect producer profits.
