The new concept of “SoundTalks® powered by FARMERA™”. improves respiratory health monitoring, allowing the integration of new data to define respiratorydisease patterns and trends.

Boehringer Ingelheim hosted the Symposium “SoundTalks® Innovation Exchange” to share practical experiences on the impact that smart farming is having on the swine industry.

This event was an outstanding opportunity to see how the swine industry is incorporating technology and big data to co-create cutting edge solutions, like SoundTalks® powered by FARMERA™, to improve production systems and outcomes.

Dr. Carmen Alonso, Team Lead of Digital Products within the Integrated Health Management (IHM) of Boehringer Ingelheim, presented the new concept of “SoundTalks® powered by FARMERA™” where Boehringer Ingelheim goes one step further in respiratory health monitoring, allowing the integration of new data as well as the monitoring, not only of specific farms, but also of different farm flows and even regions at a system level.

SoundTalks® powered by FARMERA™ is a robust surveillance system focused on respiratory health. It provides continuous, objective, and quantifiable monitoring of respiratory signs at the farm level and across the production system and provides real-time alerts that detect early symptoms of respiratory disease with a high specificity and sensitivity.

FARMERA™ is a data management platform that aggregates and collects data, including temperature and relative humidity information from the SoundTalks® integrated barn sensors. It visualizes the SoundTalks® metrics ReHS, or Respiratory Health Status, in easy-to-interpret graphs together with medication and mortality records that can be accessed from anywhere at any time. FARMERA™ brings evidence-based decision-making to your production system.

The symposium “SoundTalks® Innovation Exchange” featured the presence of prominent pig producers who shared their vision of how the implementation of precision livestock farming has modified their monitoring programs at a health and production level.

On the context of modern swine production, smart farming represents a present full of opportunities and a promising future that we at Boehringer Ingelheim want to share with the industry.
