Libido

Libido is the ability of showing a sexual behaviour (sexual drive or instinct).

In the case of boars, libido can be affected by the type of housing (boars should be housed relatively close to the sows, because the stimuli from sows help keep their sexual motivation), the rearing system (boars should be reared in groups, because isolation in juvenile stages can reduce irreversibly their libido), the first services (feeling fear or pain during services can influence the animal behavior for the rest of its life) and service frequency (both high and low service frequency can reduce the libido of the boar, although this will normally happen temporarily).
