Infarction

When a portion of tissue is left, suddenly, without blood circulation due to an obstruction of the arteries or the veins, there is an infarction. As a consequence of the lack of blood circulation, the affected area dies, and this can cause problems of a low or high seriousness, depending on the affected organ and the extent of the affected area. The kind of infarction we are most familiarized with is that of the myocardium, that happens when a part of the heart is deprived of blood circulation for the sustainment of the heart muscle. The consequences can be very serious, because due to the death of part of the heart tissue there can be defects in the heart contraction. The pig is an animal with a tendency towards this kind of infarctions.
