Information

Swine enteroviruses are found in the intestine. Their clinical importance is questionable. Enteroviruses were previously associated with the term "SMEDI." This acronym stands for stillbirth, mummification, embryonic death and infertility. Enteroviruses are subdivided into serotypes from which the Teschen and Talfan prototypes have been moved to the new genus called Teschovirus. 

 

Symptoms

Sows, nursing piglets, nursery and fattening

  •  Not seen.

 

Causes / Contributing Factors

  • Ingestion of infected feces.
  • Improper gilt acclimation.

 

Diagnosis

It has no clinical importance. Virus isolation and serology must be performed to diagnose.

None.
