These whitish plaques over the esophageal mucosa correspond to a proliferation of the esophageal epithelium in response to a Candida albicans infection. It is usually observed in piglets and weaners and it is a consequence of other primary factors such as antibiotic therapy, inanition, immunosuppression or gastric reflux.
