Biting of the anus of growing pigs is a rare, but extremely damaging condition that is normally seen concurrently with other vices such as tail, flank, and ear biting. As with these other forms of abnormal behaviour, the cause is often complex, involving multiple factors, and can be particularly difficult to control.
This condition is not frequently seen. It occurs most often in growing pigs around 20-60 kg.
High stocking density, variable temperatures, competition for feed and water supplies, rectal prolapses and other stress factors could trigger this condition.
