Subcutaneous oedema is caused when piglets kneel down for sucking the sow’s udder. The manubrium of the sternum rubs the floor causing subcutaneous oedema. No treatment is needed, it is reabsorbed a few weeks after weaning. Bedding farrowing houses minimizes this condition.
