This is the chemical burn after the introduction of pigs to the poorly dried pen, disinfected with a lime. At once, the farmer noticed a reddening of the skin, and after few days, severe skin lesions. Disinfection with lime is a common practice, however proper lime mixing and sufficiently long drying process are crucial to prevent burns of the skin and respiratory tract of introduced animals.
In the differential diagnosis external parasites, pityriasis rosea and lesions caused by severe diarrhea should be considered.
