Pulmonary blood aspiration is the entry of blood from the oropharynx into the larynx and lower respiratory tract. This is caused during the slaughtering of the animal due to accidental incision of the trachea. It is a bad slaughtering technique that compromises the welfare of the animal due to a bad bleeding that asphyxiates the animal with its own blood.
This lung lesion must not be confused by an infectious agent when inspecting lungs in the slaughterhouse.
