A rounded whitish mass is seen in the kidney, that upon sectioning has a lardaceous appearance. It is an embryonic tumour called nephroblastoma. It is the most common primary renal tumour in pigs. They are normally unilateral, but they can sometimes be bilateral, and in some cases can metastasise to other organs like the lung and the liver.
We must make a differential diagnosis with abscesses, cysts and other tumours, such as lymphomas.
