Piglets are usually born shaking and trembling. When there is active stimulation (eg. handling, noise) will often exaggerate the shaking; conversely it will tend to stop when the piglets fall asleep.
Congenital tremor can be inherited, caused by infectious disease, result from toxicity or be of unknown cause.
There is no specific treatment for affected piglets but careful management will greatly reduce mortality.
Ensure that piglets are given colostrum at birth and assisted to a teat.
