Microinfarcts in the small intestine - Atlas of swine pathology

Where:
Possible causes: IleitisSwine dysentery
The lesion is observed in the small bowel of a fattener after slaughter, in the ileum region. The mucosa appears reddened and with several microinfarcts scattered throughout the intestine.
A histological study would be needed to diagnose this lesion, as well as a culture to identify the causative pathogen.
In this case, the most likely cause of the lesion is a colitis by Brachyspira spp., or an acute haemorrhagic ileitis by Lawsonia intracellularis.
