These lung lesions, found at the slaughterhouse in a fattening pig, are compatible with enzootic pneumonia, a highly contagious disease characterized by high morbidity, low mortality, chronic cough and impaired growth. Its etiological agent is Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, and transmission may occur through direct contact with the respiratory secretions of the carrier pig or by aerosols. Affected lung areas are consolidated and well delimited in relation to normal tissue. Acute lesions are purple red and considerably denser in consistency, similar to that of the liver. Chronic lesions are grey.
