Laceration of the vulva - Atlas of swine pathology

Extensive lacerations of the vulva are common. The most common causes are bites, especially during the final phase of gestation in group housing, as well as tearing trauma caused by the farrowing stall. As it is highly vascularized tissue, we can observe heavy bleeding. The presence of scar tissue can create constrictions and make farrowing difficult.
