Lung of a fattening pig with respiratory symptomatology that did not collapse when removed from the thoracic cavity. It has red-brown multifocal areas and reddish cranioventral consolidation areas. At a microscopic level, the lesions seen are a thickening of the alveolar walls due to a mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltration; peribronchial, peribronchiolar and perivascular lymphoid hyperplasia; and polymorphonuclear neutrophils in the alveolar air spaces. It is a combination of interstitial pneumonia, bronchointerstitial pneumonia and purulent bronchopneumonia in a porcine respiratory complex case in which the PRRS virus, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and secondary bacteria are implied.
