Atrophy of fat can be observed in several organs (heart, bone marrow, etc). Fat loses its opacity and becomes a translucent watery gel, this lesion is usually called "serous atrophy of fat". In this case it affects the fat around the coronary band of the heart. It occurs rapidly during anorexia, starvation or cachexia.
