Cross section of the middle lobe of a pig lung in which accumulations of creamy yellow matter are observed; in some cases they are surrounded by a whitish band of tissue. This is a chronic purulent bronchopneumonia in which the purulent material has been accumulating and forming abscesses.

We must make a differential diagnosis with embolic pneumonias. In the latter, we can observe the presence of abscesses in any part of the lung parenchyma, whereas in chronic purulent bronchopneumonia we can only observe them in the cranio-ventral portions of the lung.
