The image shows the reproductive tract of a 10-month old sow; testicular tissue can be seen on both sides (arrows, darker yellow) and in the left ovary (asterisk, next to the testicular tissue). Hermaphroditism is a disease of genetic origin in which the sexual organs have characteristics of both sexes. This sow was part of a batch of gilts that were sent to the slaughterhouse due to reproductive problems.
