Possible causes: Iron deficiency anemiaMycoplasma suis

Eperythrozoon suis was reclassified in 2002 as Mycoplasma suis, but the disease it causes is still known as swine eperythrozoonosis. It is a sporadic disease, usually observed in young, growing pigs, characterized by lethargy, fever, anorexia, anemia and, in severe cases, by jaundice.

Confirmation was made by demonstrating the organism in blood smears stained with Wright-Giemsa stain. The organism was found on the surface of erythrocytes.
