In 2024, China's total grain production set a historical high reaching 706.50 million tons, an increase of 11.09 million tons (+1.6%) compared with the previous year. The main grain varieties in the sampling survey include rice, wheat, and corn.
China's grain sown area stood at 119,319 thousand hectares, an increase of 351 thousand hectares (+0.3%) compared with the previous year, contributing nearly 20% to the increased production.
The yield increase has achieved good results. China's grain yield per unit area came in at 5,921 kg/ha, an increase of 75.8 kg/ha (+1.3%) compared with 2023. The yield increase has contributed more than 80% to the increase in grain production.
The planting structure was adjusted, intercropping was developed, and abandoned land was reclaimed. The central government continued to increase its support for grain production, the minimum purchase price of wheat and early indica rice continued to increase, corn and soybean producer subsidies and rice subsidies remained stable, and the full cost insurance and planting income insurance of the three major staple foods were fully covered, stabilizing farmers' expectations of grain production income.
